Opis

Nie było nic, co Balrog uwielbiałby bardziej niż kanapkę z „zielonym serem” — zwłaszcza taką, której pozwolono „dojrzewać” przez tydzień czy dwa! Pomagało też, gdy ser spoczął między dwiema grubymi kromkami dobrego, razowego chleba… Wiadomo, że Balrogi toczyły wojny o takie przysmaki.

Jednak — o czym ten konkretny Balrog nie miał pojęcia — takie rozkosze miały się wkrótce gwałtownie skończyć… za sprawą dziwnego „drapania” do drzwi jego siedziby. Ten odgłos wplącze go w sprawy z „Lemin-Szczurami”, „Karaluchami” i paskudnymi „Czerwonymi Kapturami”, gdy będzie się mozolił nad naprawdę przebiegłymi zagadkami.

Czy zdoła znaleźć sposób, by przekroczyć most albo pomóc młodemu chłopcu w poszukiwaniu „niemożliwego”? Czy odważy się podejść dość blisko ciemnych drzew, by odnaleźć obiekt swoich pragnień? Czy przyciągnie uwagę przewoźnika albo odkryje, gdzie podział się zbiegły osioł?

Odpowiedzi na te i niezliczone inne zagadki są na wyciągnięcie ręki — ale czy jesteś dość sprytny i odważny, by je znaleźć… czy też zadanie okaże się zbyt trudne i dla CIEBIE, i dla BALROGA?

Uwagi

Pierwotnie gra na Spectrum stworzona w systemie Quill. John Wilson wrócił do niej jakieś trzydzieści lat później i przygotował wersję PAW CP/M na Amstrada oraz edycję DAAD na C64 i Atari ST.

Notes:
1. Make sure you save your position *before* you smash the egg as it 
randomly explodes and if it does the game will end. 
2. It may be necessary to wander around for a while in the rabbit warren 
before you meet the rabbit. Just be patient.

Walk Through:
(Start in Balrog's cottage), EXAMINE COTTAGE, TALK CAT, SIT CHAIR, N 
(main highway), N (central plateau), EXAMINE BOULDER, W, S, W, S, S, S, 
E, GET BRANCH (you snap one from the overhanging trees), W, N, N, N, E, N 
(edge of plateau), EXAMINE STUMP (tree), LOOK IN STUMP (see a tunnel and 
a sword), REACH IN STUMP (you pull out the sword), GET SWORD, EXAMINE 
SWORD, E, E, LEVER ROCK (using the branch - it rolls over the edge and 
you will climb on it later).

W, S, S (back to cottage), EXAMINE TABLE, GET SANDWICH, EXAMINE CABINET, 
EXAMINE SHELVES, SEARCH SHELVES, GET NOTEBOOK, READ NOTEBOOK (note the 
word which will allow you to access the help screen), OPEN DRAWERS, GET 
PARCHMENT, READ PARCHMENT, DROP PARCHMENT, MOVE CABINET, EXAMINE HATCH 
(cat flap), ENTER HATCH (you find yourself on a well trodden path), S 
(smallest room), EXAMINE ROOM, EXAMINE TOILET, EXAMINE CISTERN, EXAMINE 
CHAIN, EXAMINE RIGHT WALL, GET PAPER, READ PAPER (an entry form for the 
cockroach races), EXAMINE LEFT WALL, READ SCRIBBLE, N, E (back to 
cottage), EXAMINE CARPET (lumpy), LIFT CARPET (cockroaches disappear in 
all directions), LIFT CARPET (this time you see a fat cockroach), GET 
COCKROACH (you put it in your pocket).

OPEN TRAPDOOR (using the blade of the sword to prise it), D (into 
cellar), N, E, EXAMINE SHELVES, SEARCH SHELVES, GET THREAD, S, EXAMINE 
BARREL, MOVE BARREL (you reveal a hole in the floor), D (top of shaft), 
EXAMINE LADDER, D, D (into damp cavern), W (through the hole), W, W, W (a 
lemin-rat steals the green-cheese sandwich), FOLLOW LEMIN-RAT (to ledge), 
GET COIN (copper), GET BREAD, EXAMINE BREAD, U (you climb onto the rock 
which you rolled over the edge earlier and reach the plateau), S, E, E, 
EXAMINE TREE, READ POSTER, E (into inn), EXAMINE BARMAN, EXAMINE BENCH, 
READ SIGN (you need a gold coin to buy food or beer), EXAMINE MACHINE, 
PLAY MACHINE (you earn a "Smart Egg"), EXAMINE EGG, KICK MACHINE (a coin 
falls to the floor), GET BRONZE COIN (before you go any further save your 
position as if the egg randomly explodes the game will end), SMASH EGG, 
GET TIPS, EXAMINE TIPS.

W, W, W, W, W, S, S, S, EXAMINE CART (overturned), SEARCH UNDER CART, GET 
ROCK, E, E, EXAMINE FOREST, E, E, E, E, (river bank), THROW ROCK (it 
lands with a "clang" on the tin roof of the boat house ... a figure 
emerges and rows across the river), EXAMINE BOAT, BOARD BOAT (note you 
must be carrying the bronze coin… you find yourself on a small patch of 
white sand), E, E, E, EXAMINE SMALL BOY, TALK BOY, GIVE TIPS (he gives 
you a pencil), W, W, W, W (leave the axe as it's a red herring) E, E, 
BOARD BOAT, W, S (into barn), EXAMINE BIRDS, E, SIGN FORM, GIVE FORM (the 
man says you are now eligible to compete in the cockroach race), W, W 
(your cockroach only comes fourth), E, TRAIN COCKROACH (using the length 
of thread), W, N (this time the cockroach comes second), E, TRAIN 
COCKROACH, W, W (you win and now have a silver coin).

N, W, W, W, W, W, EXAMINE FENCE, CLIMB FENCE, EXAMINE ONIONS, E, EXAMINE 
POTATOES, E, EXAMINE DONKEY, RIDE DONKEY (he won't let you and leaves), 
W, W, CLIMB FENCE (the man appears with his donkey which he hitches up to 
his cart), EXAMINE HAY, HIDE IN HAY (the man drives off... you pass the 
troll unseen... the cart hits a bump and you are thrown out), W (into 
rabbit warren... wander around if necessary until you meet the rabbit), 
EXAMINE RABBIT (hungry), FEED RABBIT (with the bread - the rabbit says 
"follow me"... you find yourself in a cavernous room), EXAMINE GYPSY, 
TALK TO GYPSY, SAY HELLO (he takes the silver coin in return for a can... 
you are ushered out), EXAMINE CAN, E, E, E (you sneak past the troll), E, 
E, S (cottage where the cat grabs the tin).
